The honest OBS integration workflow

Competitors often advertise "just paste a URL into an OBS Browser Source." However, OBS Browser Source is an isolated Chromium instance that cannot access your desktop audio or microphone without complex external streaming servers. PulseKani uses an honest, bulletproof approach that actually works with zero latency:

Workflow 1: Web Browser with Clean Output

Open PulseKani in Chrome or Brave. Add your audio (microphone, music file, or browser tab). Click Clean output. A clean popup window opens containing solely the live visual stage with zero buttons or UI. In OBS Studio, add a Window Capture source targeting this window.

Workflow 2: PulseKani Desktop (Spout & Loopback)

For high-end production rigs on Windows, the native PulseKani desktop build supports direct GPU texture sharing via Spout (zero-copy GPU frames into OBS) and native Windows WASAPI loopback audio capture.

Chroma Key & Stream Overlays

Select scenes with minimal background or use contrasting palettes to easily chroma-key or luma-key the visuals over your camera feed or gameplay using OBS filters.

Live Stream Deck & MIDI Controls

Map scene transitions, randomize, or intensity to hardware knobs and buttons via PulseKani's built-in Web MIDI support in the Advanced panel for seamless live performance while streaming.

How to set up PulseKani in OBS in 4 steps

  1. 1. Open PulseKani & add your audio

Launch PulseKani. Connect your microphone, open a music file, or share browser tab audio from your stream playlist.

  2. 2. Open the Clean Output window

Click the Clean output button next to Fullscreen. PulseKani opens a dedicated visual-only window that synchronizes with the main controller via high-speed BroadcastChannel.

  3. 3. Add a Window Capture in OBS Studio

In OBS Studio under Sources, click +Window Capture. Select the pulsekani-output window. Set Capture Method to Windows 10 / 11 or BitBlt.

  4. 4. Position and layer your scene

Resize the visualizer overlay to fit your stream canvas, position it behind your webcam or on an intermission screen, and start streaming!

Frequently asked questions

Why is Window Capture better than an OBS Browser Source for music visualizers?

An OBS Browser Source cannot hear your microphone, virtual mixer, or desktop audio unless you run an icecast/RTMP audio streaming relay. By running PulseKani in your browser with Clean Output, PulseKani analyzes your sound directly on your PC with zero latency, and OBS captures the high-speed 60 FPS visual feed flawlessly.

Does Clean Output work on a second monitor?

Yes. You can drag the Clean Output window to a second monitor or TV and double-click to maximize it, or use it for live stage projections while keeping your control window accessible on your main screen.

Can I trigger scene changes while in a game or streaming?

Yes. PulseKani supports keyboard shortcuts (19 for scenes, R to randomize, Arrow keys to cycle) and standard USB MIDI controllers so you can switch looks without taking focus away from your stream.

Is there an auto-cycling mode for long streams?

Yes. In the Advanced panel, enable Auto-cycle to automatically rotate between scenes every 15, 30, or 60 seconds, or cycle exclusively through your starred favorite scenes.
